Afamelanotide, or Melanotan / Melanotan II, is a subcutaneous injection which actually induces melanogenesis, or the process of sun tanning without the need for UV exposure. The product is not yet legally available outside of clinical trials, however there has been a rash of online availability of an ‘undetermined’ product claiming to be Melanotan. The manufacturer bares no responsibility to these claimed ‘fake’ products, and users should be aware what they are injecting has passed no regulatory test and is in all likelihood not of pharmaceutical grade quality. Some negative reactions have occurred from these illegal products.
Although these products may easily be found online, it is our advice to refrain from this temptation until such time the real product passes all necessary trials and is deemed safe for human use.
